Hi,Joanna here. This is week 7. I am doing Week 7 work. (: ENJOY! Happy New Year too!

Juliet should have tell Paris that she do not love him before she marries Romeo. If Paris will give up,he would not come to the vault and will not meet Romeo who decided to suicide beside Juliet's grave. They would not fight if they did not meet each other. So,Paris will not die.

I(Fiar Laurence) should have send the letter to Romeo earlier. That way,he would be
prepared and not buy the strong poison. I should also come earlier to Juliet's "grave". I might be able to stop Romeo from drinking the poison on time, and prevent him from dying. It'spartly my fault too.

My character(Fiar Laurence),should have do everything earlier. It might have prevented Romeo,Paris and Juliet from dying.

§ How did the fight start? §

The fight started when Romeo arrived. Tybalt was not interested in fighting Mercutio, but he wants to fight with him. Tybalt's heart was filled with hate when he sees Romeo. Romeo said calmly that he has very good reason to love him, so he is not going to be angry by the way he greeted him. Romeo ignores Tybalt and walks away.

Mercutio asked Romeo angrily why he was being so weak and asked if he wanted Tybalt to win. Tybalt took out his sword and said that he was ready to start the fight. Romeo asked Benvolio to take out his sword and stop the fight. Romeo said the Prince has ordered them not to fight in the streets of Verona. Romeo stood between Tybalt and Mercutio. He puts up his arms to stop the fight. Tybalt pushes his sword into Mercutio. After injuring Mercutio, Tybalt ran away with Sampson and Gregory.

Tybalt returned. Romeo said that Tybalt is alive but Mercutio is dead. He is not going to hold himself back. They both fought and Romeo killed Tybalt. That was how the fight between Romeo and Tybalt started.

Nobody wanted or tried to stop the fight. Before they even fought, no one tried to make peace between the both of them. Nobody tried to even prevent the fight to even start.

I think that Tybalt deserves to die. It is because that if he was still alive, he would be lowering the chances of Juliet being able to be together with Romeo. If he was not dead, he might also bring harm on Romeo anytime.

§ Should There have been any Punishments? §

There should have been punishment. Sampson and Gregory, two servants of the house of Capulet, stroll through the streets of Verona. With bawdy banter, Sampson vents his hatred of the house of Montague. The two exchange punning remarks about physically conquering Montague men and sexually conquering Montague women. Gregory sees two Montague servants approaching, and discusses with Sampson the best way to provoke them into a fight without breaking the law.
Sampson bites his thumb at the Montagues—a highly insulting gesture. A verbal confrontation quickly escalates into a fight. Benvolio, a kinsman to Montague, enters and draws his sword in an attempt to stop the confrontation. Tybalt, a kinsman to Capulet, sees Benvolio’s drawn sword and draws his own. Benvolio explains that he is merely trying to keep the peace, but Tybalt professes a hatred for peace as strong as his hatred for Montagues, and attacks. The brawl spreads. A group of citizens bearing clubs attempts to restore the peace by beating down the combatants. Montague and Capulet enter, and only their wives prevent them from attacking one another. Prince Escalus arrives and commands the fighting stop on penalty of torture. The Capulets and Montagues throw down their weapons.
The Prince declares the violence between the two families has gone on for too long, and proclaims a death sentence upon anyone who disturbs the civil peace again. He says that he will speak to Capulet and Montague more directly on this matter; Capulet exits with him, the brawlers disperse, and Benvolio is left alone with his uncle and aunt, Montague and Lady Montague.

§ Whose Fault was it? Who Started the Fight? §

It was Sampson’s fault and he started the fight. Sampson and Gregory step out of the house of Capulet talking to each other. Sampson makes it clear that they are in a feud with the Montagues. Sampson is not going to let them humiliate the Capulets anymore and he is willing to fight anyone to let them know, even the women and the children. Gregory agrees that they are not going to let the Montagues get away with any more humiliation but he warns Sampson that the feud is between the men of both houses and not the women. Sampson makes it clear that he does not care whether a Montague is a woman or man; he will kill them.

It is at this point that they come across Abram and Balthasar from the house of Montague. Gregory and Sampson saw Abram and Balthasar. Sampson and Gregory start to rest their hands on the hilt and started to pull their swords out. Sampson than made a rude face at Abram and Balthasar. Abram ask if Sampson had made a rude face at them. But Sampson denied. Sampson started fighting with Abram. The rest of the people joined and they fought with each other.

§ Short Account of the Fight §

At the town square in Verona, Sampson was prepared to attack the Montague, if he sees any of them. While Gregory saw Abram a walking towards them. Sampson was petty and he wanted to make a rude face at Abram. Sampson denied when Abram ask him if his making a rude face at him.

The servants than started arguing and they fought with each other. Their tempers were flared and was bounded to have a fight. Benvolio came forward and stop the fight. Tybalt thought that Benvolio was part of the fight so he attacks Benvolio. The town people stand together and watch the fight while supporting each family by raising their voices (“Down with the Montagues, down with the Capulets.”).

Lord Capulet asked Sampson about the situation. Before Lord Capulet and Lord Montague could fight with each other, the families of each Lady restrain their own husband from joining the fight. The Prince came forward to stop the fight and warn the two families to stop fighting or else, both of the families would need to pay the forfeit of the peace.

§ Friar Laurence Introduction §

Friar Laurence is the Priest in Verona. He weds Romeo and Juliet hoping the marriage will unite both families, instead it causes fighting. Later in the story, he gave Juliet a bottle of sleeping potion and helped Romeo out. Alone, the innocent Friar gives us foreshadowing with his soliloquy about plants and their similarities to humans. When Romeo requests that the Friar marry him to Juliet, he is shocked, because only days before, Romeo had been infatuated with Rosaline, a woman who did not return his love. Nevertheless, Friar Lawrence decides to marry Romeo and Juliet in the attempt to end the civil feud between the Capulets and the Montagues.

When Romeo is banished and flees to Mantua for murdering Tybalt, he tries to help the two lovers get back together using a death-emulating potion to fake Juliet's death. The friar's letter to Romeo does not reach him because the people of Mantua suspects the messenger came from a house where the plague reigns, and the Friar is unable to arrive at the Capulet's monument in time. Romeo kills Count Paris, whom he finds weeping near Juliet's corpse, then commits suicide, by drinking poison that he bought from an impoverished apothecary, over what he thinks is Juliet's dead body. Friar Lawrence arrives just as Juliet awakes from her chemically-induced slumber. He urges Juliet not to be rash, and to join a society of nuns, but he hears a noise from outside and then flees from the tomb. Juliet then kills herself with Romeo's dagger, completing the tragedy. The Friar is forced to return to the tomb, where he recounts the entire story to Prince Escalus, and all the Montagues and Capulets. As he finishes, the prince proclaims, "We have still known thee for a holy man."
